From 8 points in the Fahreignungsregister your licence is withdrawn, reinstatement is only possible after passing the MPU. Unlike with alcohol or cannabis, no abstinence proof is required: the focus is the psychological interview about your driving behaviour and self-awareness.

Work through every offence factually
Go through each point: what was the situation? What were you thinking? What should have stopped you? That's where the interview starts.
Recognise the pattern in your driving
Assessors look for a pattern, not for isolated incidents. Show that you see this pattern in yourself.
Name concrete behavioural changes
What do you do differently today? No general promises, concrete things you can prove.
Practise the interview
Rehearse the MPU interview. For questions like "What would you do differently today?" you should answer fluently and honestly.
Apply for an appointment
After the blocking period: application to the licensing authority and an appointment at TÜV, DEKRA or pima.

At 8 points in the Fahreignungsregister (Flensburg) your licence is withdrawn. The MPU order usually comes as a condition for re-issuance, not automatically on reaching 8 points.
The focus is on the psychological interview: behaviour in traffic, rule-breaking, self-assessment and willingness to change. Medical and performance tests are less relevant in a pure points MPU.
No. Passing the MPU does not delete points. It only enables re-issuance of the licence. Points are deleted after fixed periods (2.5 or 10 years depending on the entry).
Up to the point of withdrawal (8 points) you can voluntarily attend a fitness-to-drive seminar, which cuts up to 4 points, but only up to a maximum of 5 total. From 8 points onwards there is no way around the MPU.
The blocking period is at least 6 months. In practice, with MPU preparation, waiting times for appointments and the report procedure, it often takes 12 to 18 months.
Downplaying. Anyone who brushes off individual offences as "not a big deal" or fails to see the pattern behind the points almost always fails. Assessors want to hear that you have really thought about your driving.
